Diversifying fashion

During Fashion Week each designer’s goal is to create a line that will “wow” their audience. Whether it is the use of innovative textiles, silhouettes, or colors; the main goal is to capture the viewer’s attention. The Spring 2016 Fashion Week was different, primarily because of one plus sized model: Candice Huffie—who rocked the runway.

Candice modeled for Sophie Theallet’s Spring 2016 fashion show and was the only plus sized model that was featured. Before this week Candice starred in Lane Bryant’s #plusisequal campaign, and before then she was the first plus size model to pose for the Pierely Calendar.
Sophie Theallet and Candice Huffie continue to collaborate together in the movement to diversify fashion. Size shouldn’t matter when you are talking about women whose only wish is to be fashionable. Today 67% of women range in sizes 14-24. Being a plus size model really should not be a taboo, considering the statistics. We hope to see women working together more often, like this, in order to prush and break barriers like body image taboos. When strong women empower each other like this, we will only make a stronger and more powerful impact of Fashion and the world.
