Women Shaving Their Face?!
So, one late night I was scrolling trough Facebook, as one does, and I came upon an article about how women should be shaving their face. I was curious, so I clicked on it. As I was reading, I became more and more fascinated by the idea. Women apparently have been shaving their faces for thousands of years! Cleopatra was known for doing it, and so were Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. Some of the most beautiful women in history were face shavers? This really got my attention. What is so great about shaving your face? I know men hate it, and I hate shaving my legs and underarms, so could there be enough good to make me want to try it?
Here are some of the claimed benefits that are made by shaving:
-Removal of peach fuzz
-Helps exfoliate
-Allows makeup application to go on smoother
-Less irritating than hair removal creams and waxing
These sound like possible benefits I would like to acquire, but could there has to be some down sides, right?
There are some serious concerns I have when it comes to actually taking a razor to my face. What about stubble? Or the perception that it will grow back thicker or darker? You could knick your face and that wouldn’t look too attractive. Plus it doesn’t seem like a good idea if you have acne or other skin conditions. Also, depending on skin and hair type you may get ingrown hairs on your face…Yikes! I have read some articles that say you should definitely not shave your face. This makes me more than just a little nervous about trying it. It’s like once you do it there’s no going back. Will I be stuck with it forever and what if I don’t like it?
For myself, I am not particularly worried so much about facial hair. Of course I have some, but it has never really bothered me. I’m interested in the other benefits. I have very dry and flakey skin. I have tried many options for exfoliating, but nothing has really helped, especially in the winter. I want to see if this could be a possible solution for my unflattering skin condition. So, I will be taking a razor to my face!! I am going to try it out for a few weeks and do an update on how my skin has faired.
Here are some things you need to know if you are curious about face shaving also. From my research the best way to shave is to use a special face razor that you can get on Amazon.Yes, it’s called the Tinkle. Not sure who came up with that one, but if it works, who cares. There are also eye brow razors you can purchase at sally beauty for about the same price. One of the articles I read said these are the best to use because they are curved and less likely to cut your face. With these kind of razors you don’t need any shaving cream, bare and damp skin is best. Afterward you should definitely moisturize. It is also recommended that you throw the razors away after about 3 uses, and disinfect after each use with rubbing alcohol. I plan on shaving about once a week, maybe less. I just have to test it out and see how often I actually need to.
Here is a video showing you how you should be using these razors. She does a pretty good job explaing some of the benefits and myths about shaving.
I hope some of you decide to take the dive and see if this work! It sounds pretty good from what I’ve seen. Like I said I will be posting an update on my experience, so be sure to check back for that!
