Easy DIY Facial Cleanser
Hey, everybody! I've taken a break from my feminist angst and am bringing you an awesome DIY facial cleanser. This cleanser saved my skin. I had clear skin throughout high school, a pimple here and there, but nothing terrible. And then college and grad school, and my face was awful! I tried alot of cleansers and toners, and nothing really worked too well for me.
Until about a year ago, when I found this great recipe for a facial cleanser. It's all clean, organic, and natural, and I love it. My face is back to what it was in high school. A break out here and there, usually around my period. But nothing compared to what it was.
First, you need:
1 lemon
Rubbing alcohol
Witch Hazel (you can find it at any drug store with the rubbing alcohol)
Essential Oils
Essential Oils Guidelines:
Choose your essential oils wisely, and do a little bit of research of specific oils and how they help your face. This is a pretty great guide if you're not too sure what essential oils are about.
The ones that I use are:
Tea Tree: Tea Tree oil is a great antibacterial and antifungal. I also really love the smell!
Peppermint: This helps me when I use it in the morning and I need a good jolt! As opposed to just splashing cold water on my face.
Eucalyptus: OMG! I love eucaltyptus. I could live in a Mentholatum jar and die happy, because I love the smell. It's really great for allergies and opening up your sinuses. Again, a really great wake up call, especially in the winter when you may wake up stuff and congested.
Lavender: Lavender, I like to make it with a separate cleanser, and I use this one to settle down for the night. It's a great relaxor and destressor.
Steps For Making Your Cleanser:
1. Cut your lemon in half and squeeze out about 1/2 an ounce.
2. Add equal parts Alcohol and Witch Hazel. I added 1/2 an ounce for each. However, if you have dry skin, you might want to add more witch hazel than alcohol, and definitely use a good facial cream after each use.
3. Next, it's time to add your essential oils. I added 5 drops of each, and try to keep them below that. I would not go over 5 drops of one essential oil.
Close up your bottle and shake it up before each use.
To use it, I spray about 10 sprays on a cotton swab.
And once I've cleaned off my makeup, I rub it over my face. Keep a distance from your eyes!
My wonderful helper!
Look at all that crap from just one day! Gross!
Again, it can dry out your skin. I use it twice a day, and I love it. But if you have dry skin, be sure to cut it down and adjust the amounts of ingredients you use.
Enjoy, lovelies!
