Cabbage Tostadas-Chilindrinas
Sometimes I want a somewhat healthy snack that is easy to make, and I remember when I was in school in Juarez they used to sell Chilindrinas. Chilindrinas are a wheat puff, chicharron, (think of a giant sabritones) with shredded cabbage, sour cream, and hot sauce. I was always curious about the name Chilindrina, since this is the only Chilindrina I know:

I remember the mess they made when we bit into them and how satisfying they were. I wanted to recreate them, but the chicharrones, wheat puffs, are hard to find, however I substituted corn tortilla shells. I know that these are not the traditional Chilindrinas that contain beans, pickled pork rinds, avocado, and onion, but this is all a quarter would get you after school or at lunch time. They are delicious either way.
Here are the ingredients you will need:
1 Tostada (I use Mr. Maizito) 1-2 Tbs Sour Cream ½ c shredded cabbage 1 Lime, juiced Hot Sauce (traditionally I would use VALENTINA, but today I only had Frank’s buffalo)
Here are the steps:
Spread the sour cream over the tostada as evenly as you can.
Add the shredded cabbage.
Squeeze the lime juice to cover the cabbage.
Add hot sauce.
Enjoy!
