5 Things Working Retail has Taught me

It’s the Holiday Season the most wonderful time of the year, and the most dreaded time for retail workers, solely because it’s a stressful and hectic time for retail stores around the nation. These are some tips I have learned to follow as a customer through my experience in retail.

Greet the Employees Back

I am here at work greeting you as you come into the store; I have literally stopped what I was doing JUST to say hi to you. Can you not ignore us? We know you heard us and yeah I get it you have been to just about 20 stores and they have all greeted you so it has gotten annoying. For me I have gotten ignored for the hundredth time that day so just say hi back.

Actually ask for Help

Yes, I look young but it is literally my job to know what is in the store and how the things in the store will fit you. If you ask me a question I do not know I know the person who can answer that question for you. Even when I go shopping my customer experience positively increases by 100% when I ask for help.An associate can find what you are looking for just about a thousand times quicker than you can.

Do not put a Garment back

If you decided not to buy it return it to us please, nine out of ten times you will put it in the wrong place. I know employees are not always available so take it to the register or hang it outside the racks. It really sucks when another customer comes along saying that a garment is 60% off cause it was in clearance, and you have to explain some else placed it there and they are not going to back down on this they will blame staff.

Let me Grab your Size

I can find it faster and I can do it without making a mess, I am not trying to be overly nice I know you are perfectly capable of finding your size. Let me assist you though cause you are ruining my neat piles of clothes!

We Really do Care About Every Customer

Okay, okay enough with the rant. I have worked retail for quite some time now and I can honestly tell you that we do care about our customers. I always want my customer to have a great experience, it is always a great feeling when certain people recognize me and actually request me to help them again during their second visit. Just keep in mind we are people too and having a nice customer really gets us though the day. Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!
